Italy in black & white

During my second year of interning in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy, I started making pictures with my film camera. We processed about 3 three rolls in our dark room at the center and I only developed probably three photos because things were so hectic all the time.

And so my negatives sat in their sleeves for these past few years. Up until about a month ago when one of my good friends, who happens to have a film scanner, took it upon himself to scan ALL of my photos! 

It's so fun to finally see these photos! Bits of Rome, Venice, small towns around Tuscany, Castiglion Fiorentino and even my trip to Spain. Way back before I had a smart phone and used Instagram obsessively. I love these photos so much. I wish I had been able to develop them myself in the dark room but finally having scans of them at last is so nice. These are some of my favorites.

summer so far

June went by so fast! I can't believe July starts on Monday...pretty crazy how fast the summer is moving already. These are some of my favorite photos from this past month. This first batch are from the last Los Alamos Third Saturday. My littlest sister came along to play saxophone while I worked on the mural, it was great to have some music to work to! 

These next photos are from the first day of summer. I took a walk around our property to catch some of the summer light. We have some pretty epic looking oak trees up here. If it weren't so insanely hot now, I'd love to hang next to one of them and sketch all day. 

Feels like there are a lot of colors that keep popping up around here. Warm yellows, some reds and cool blues. These are slowly becoming my designated summer colors. What are your summer colors?

Italy film

My film from Italy has been staring at me. Giving me evil glaces and dirty looks. Swearing at me in Italian behind my back for never bringing them to their fully developed glory.


I was able to develop a few of my photos in the darkroom at Santa Chiara but was never able to address all 72 of my lovelies. After seeing this post on scanning negatives with a homemade adapter on TrueBlueMe&You, it was time to try and appease these long lost memories from Italia. 


Although the adapter didn't work, I found that scanning them straight worked alright. I've scanned and edited about 5 strips of film so far. These scanned versions will never live up to their developed potential, but for the time being I can flip through them and relive bits and pieces of last year.

I spent so much time uploading my sketches of Europe that I rarely looked back over my photos and took the time to share them on here. Time to remedy that.

I would give so much to be back there right now. Or atleast have access to a darkroom to develop my film I made last year. There's something about film that feels like it captures Italy in a more authentic way...vabbe'....

I've been able to make some photos in our darkroom during this last session...not as many as I'd hoped but I've got 2 rolls ready to be developed during this next summer session...

Since I am currently unable to access a scanner to get decent pictures of my recent and older book project and prints I figured I'd put up some of my photography. Some are rather old and some a rather recent...regardless, they're already on my computer and therefore get put up!
